BiFold Plantation Shutters will add character to your home’s decor, whilst being a unique functional element of access to your windows. Change the way you look at timber plantation shutters thanks to our simple bifold option.
A bifold plantation shutter system can be constructed using DIY Shutters’ hidden Pivot Hinges and standard Hurline hinges. To see this in action, view the video below.
A simple Bifold arrangement can be created in a wide window requiring say four plantation shutter panels using just two sets of Pivot Hinges and two sets of standard Hirline Hinges. No track is required. No extra cost. Easy straight-forward installation.
The panels can be laid back against the wall as the centre of the pivot hinge sits out past the face of the architrave. Conventional pivot hinge arrangements don’t allow this easily when panels are inside a frame . The Pivot Hinge is a versatile and robust mount.
DIYShutters price for our No-Track Bi-Fold is no different to a standard Pivot Hinge arrangement.
This Bifold system could also act as a two-panel room divider or as a Bifold door that uses plantation shutters instead of flat panels. As a room divider, plantation shutters create a unique ambiance.
Large panels in a BiFold configuration, of say greater than 500 x 1800, might require an overhead track with roller bearing carriers, a pelmet to cover the track, and possibly a bottom track if very large ( if more than two panels per side)
NOTE: The panels in the customers photos, and video, can be laid back against the wall if desired, as the centre-line of the pivot hinge sits out past the face of the architrave or wall.

Generally however, we recommend that you choose a simple single hinged panel each side of a window opening. This is because you can then select the No Gaps option which eliminates the 3 mm gap around the outside edges, and provides a more seamless appearance. Furthermore, it is necessary to close the louvres shut each time you want to push the bifold panels back to get to the window to open it, which is an inconvenience. This also why sliding panels are a more practical solution for a door ways than a Bi-Fold.
However, you may prefer the above BiFold arrangement, as you want to fold the panels out of the way, or even right back over the wall, so that you have an unimpeded view to the outside.
