DIYShutters Competitors Pricing
When choosing plantation shutters, it’s essential to consider the long-term benefits rather than just the initial shutters price; while competitors like BlindsOnLine, BlindsOnTheNet, and diyblinds may have established reputations and higher shutter price tags, their PVC options often come with hidden downsides such as fading and yellowing, leading to costly replacements in the future. (Check their warranty – the surface durability is not covered, whereas DIYShutters has a 7 year warranty which incudes the surface not yellowing or losing gloss).
In contrast, DIYShutters Plantation Shutters features premium engineered timber shutters that are designed to withstand UV damage and can be repainted indefinitely, making them a smart, economical investment. Instead of opting for products that will need replacing in just a few years, why not select the stylish eco-friendly and durable timber solutions from DIYShutters that will enhance your home’s aesthetic and remain resilient for decades?
Frequently Asked Questions - FAQS
Can I buy cheaper PVC shutters than DIYShutters Engineered Timber Shutters?
Yes you can. In fact up to 25% cheaper than DIYShutters plantation shutter price, which as explained above, is already less expensive than the biggest names on line.
But there’s a catch. They always cost much more in the long run.
Cheap shutters means the following:
- may well be foamed PVC, a cheaper alternative to solid PVC. Basically the PVC has a lot of tiny air bubbles in it, to ‘puff’ out the space.
- It might even be hollow PVC. The blind companies above supply only solid PVC, hence the higher price. But solid is also heavier and a poorer insulator compared to timber
- it is less likely to have expensive additive to reduce degradation by the sun’s UV rays
- you may only get 10 years of life before yellowing, or loss of gloss, or ‘greying’ becomes evident. You then throw them away, possibly at great expence to yourself, as they become landfill, as no one will paint PVC/poly. It just doesn’t stick well enough.
- usually only 1 to 3 off white shades are offered. Shutters look unprofessionally fitted if they don’t blend with the surrounding architrave or walls in shade of colour.
- always imported from China, meaning a 9 to 11 week wait and uncertainty about quality. DIYShutters- 2 to 3 weeks from order.
- always in a frame, with big gaps and prominent hinges. Frames use up space – not elegant like DIYShutters custom ‘No Gaps’ design.
- Cannot be wider than 750 mm, so more panels across a wide opening, blocking your view and stuffing your windows with plastic. DIYShutters timber shutters can be up to 1050 wide.
- must have a mid rail for drops > 1500 mm. Less elegant than DIYShutters long drop without Mid Rail design.
- you can easily make an error and they won’t fit, especially if the window opening is not just a single panel, or has insufficient depth. Get the right advice. DIYShutters always works with you before any money changes hands. We offer expert measurement for low cost, or no cost if you are local to the GC or Brisbane.
- little or no meaningful warranty. NO coating warranty is EVER offered by any of our competitors. DIYShutters warrants the coating colourfastness and integrity for seven years.
- delivery can be very very expensive, often around $60 per panel, making the original plantation shutter price much closer to DIYShutters pick up price anyway
- DIYShutters product is wood, not inferior PVC, so it should cost more
Plantation Shutter Price discounts; are they worthwhile?
Apples for apples, it is very unlikely the price, after the discount is applied, will be any better than from any other supplier.
If you get a ‘too good to be true’ or ‘bargain price’, it is likely your shutters are made from an inferior material and they simly won’t last as long or look as good. The biggest problem is surface discolouration, no-one warrants against it (except DIYShutters).
Shutters are an asset, not a fashion trend
The reason shutters cannot be realistically discounted is because they are an asset product, not a consumable or a discontinued fashion item. A shutter can be likened to a house. You cannot get a discount at an auction because there is a reserve. Shutters have a reserve; the cost of producing them. It’s the same cost for the same quality for every supplier in Australia. They all buy from the same suppliers in China. It’s only the material they choose to sell you that makes their PVC shutter price higher or lower. Almost.
Why DIYSHutters price is more competitive
But DIYShutters stands alone; it has one big advantage in keeping plantation shutter cost down; the firm manufactures in Australia using high end proprietary automatic machinery. It’s so fast, it only takes 15 minutes to process a panel; all parts drilled, routed, cut-to-length. The fact it is done in Australia, at 6 times the labour cost of China is not relevant, because the time taken represents a small part of the total cost of shutters. It’s why DIYShutters can offer premium shutters at competitive prices; effectively becoming a built in discount for it’s customers!
What makes a plantation shutter cheap; the quality of the material
Other suppliers price varies only because of what material the shutters they offer are made from. If foamed PVC lasted as long as solid PVC then everyone would be selling foamed PVC. But they are not. The cost of solid PVC shutter materials is more or less the same for all Australian suppliers (distributors really) offering that material. Because solid PVC lasts a little longer, and may have more UV additive, they can increase their warranty maybe make claims about it’s durability and sell at a higher price than foamed PVC. All PVC and poly shuttters ( poly is just PVC) sold as “high quality” cost the suppliers much the same; as all PVC shutter material comes from China, and these factores all have much the same cost to produce the shutter materials.
So you won’t be buying an ‘apples for apples’ quality shutter at a much cheaper price, by accepting a massive discount.
No suppler in Australia can truly offer a 60% or 40% discount on plantation shutters, as they would lose money. They can offer a discount on inflated shutter prices though. So it might still be worth checking where their final bottom line price ends up? Who knows, the price may come in a little less than some other offers, but it won’t be much, as the cost of inputs to produce them are the same.
So it’s true to say, that you simply cannot buy quality shutters at some unbelievably low price. They are either not what it is claimed they are, or the supplier has made a mistake.
Or, unless the supplier can provide a good explanation for their attractive price, such as DIYShutters has done; a competitive plantation shutter price that flows from the efficiency of automation.
So who’s offering discounts?
Two companies are currently offering big discounts on shutters, Kresta Blinds and Modern Group, 60% and 40% respectively. But neither provide an upfront price for their shutters, from which you can then deduct 60% or 40%. Both companies repeatedly invite you to “BOOK YOUR FREE CONSULTATION” instead. Neither of these companies offer a meaningful warranty for shutters. So how will you know whether the price you are offered is really any different from anyone elses. What will be the true quality of their product if they don’t say?
How do you know you won’t be tricked into buying, in the heat of the moment, because the discount seems so overwhelmingly good?
DIYShutters is up front and offers value
DIYShutters doesn’t ‘play games’ with discounts, or pretend it’s product is something it is not. DIYSHutters offers up front prices for plantation shutters, publisizes them, and we do not discount. We believe the customer will recognise value for money, and style, and that is what we provide.
DIYShutters only offers engineered timber, as it retains it’s straightness, lasts one hundred years or more, is the best insulator, is coated in superior urethane automotive grade ‘2 pac’, which retains it’s colour and gloss twice as long as PVC. When timber is sealed, locking in the moisture content, it does not change it’s shape or warp but stays straight. Then once recoating is due, retaining them as a true asset for your home, the shutters can be repainted. Indefintely, in any colour you choose.
What is the smartest way to get premium shutters at the lowest cost?
Buy a DIYShutters plantation shutter kit! Pre-painted kits are the easiest route. Not only will you have the satisfaction of knowing you acheived something great for not much of your time, you will save thousands of dollars on a home, and have the best plantation shutters you can get anywhere.
Alternatively, buy finished panels, and arrange to pick them up from our Gold Coast factory in 2 to 3weeks from order. It’s at Arundel, opposite Harbour Town. We can alternatively ship the panels to you in very robust packaging (not cheap though).
For the more game, the lowest possible price can be had by selecting plantation shutter kits that are primed ready for painting. You can use a spray can, a spray gun, or as one of our customers has done, a roller for amazing effect! It will be a labour of love, not that much time in the big picture though, but ends with total satisfaction.

“This small Australian company is fantastic to deal with and our shutters are beautiful. We had the wooden ones made and shipped to WA for us to install.
